Coaching, in a nutshell, is about helping you design and reach your goals. I
work with high school students, college students and academics, from graduate students to junior faculty, to help
you reach your highest potential within a balanced life.
- Academic Coaching for High School & College Students focuses on what you need to succeed as a student -- and helping you use the resources already available to you. Individual coaching is available, as well as group workshops.
- Dissertation coaching
focuses on clarifying dissertation goals and timelines, setting a
structured plan to reach those goals, and celebrating successes on the
way. Both individual and group coaching are available. See below for
pricing.
- Academic coaching for post-doctoral scholars
focuses on making the most of the post-doc experience as you come into
your own as a independent scholar and preparing you for the transition
to a junior faculty or full-time research position. See below for
individual coaching pricing.
- Academic coaching for junior faculty focuses
on transitioning into the faculty role, balancing teaching and
research, and setting the course for reaching tenure. See below for
individual coaching pricing.
- Back OnTrack Boot Camps are offered occasionally to provide a shorter-term burst of small-group support for specific writing goals. Email me to express interest.

Individual Coaching
Most clients
have individual goals that are best addressed though one-on-one
coaching. Individual group coaching focuses on defining and reaching
your goals. A typical coaching agreement is below:
- Most clients come every week or every other week
- Coaching sessions last 45-60 minutes
- Email check-ins as often as you need support
- $ 110 / session (if you pay for one session at a time)
- $ 100 / session (if you pay for three sessions at a time, payable at the first of three sessions)
- $ 90 / session (if you pay for nine sessions at a time, payable at the first of nine sessions)
Group Coaching for Dissertators
Some clients
find that the support provided by small group sessions meets their
needs by itself or in addition to individual coaching. I have worked
with dissertation groups where each participant is from a different
discipline and the focus is on setting and reaching goals, stress
management, writing, and process, but less so on the specific discipline
of each dissertator. I love working with groups where participants are
all in the same discipline, as well. This most likely occurs if
several students from one department decide that they would like their
dissertation group to be “lead” and managed by an expert coach. If you
and your department-mates are interested in such an arrangement, contact
me and we can work out pricing.
- Groups meet every other week
- 60 minute meetings at my office in Bexley (~12 minutes from the OSU campus)
- Groups that meet over the phone are anonymous
- You must commit to 3 meetings at $30/meeting -- $90 due at first meeting
- Ask about a group discount if 2 people sign up for group coaching together
- Availability of group coaching subject to number of clients interested at the time

Back OnTrack Boot Camps
From
time to time we all need a kick in the pants. Back OnTrack Boot Camps
are an opportunity to jump-start your writing habit, get a large amount
of work done to meet a deadline, start or finish a semester strong,
fully utilize the summer, etc.
The heart of the Back OnTrack Boot Camp is a supportive atmosphere for
an intense amount of work in a short amount of time. The small group
setting provides an opportunity to set goals and to receive support for
meeting those goals. It’s amazing how much you can get done in a short
amount of time when you’re focused on your goals.
- 1-2 weeks with group meetings or phone calls
- Daily check-ins on a group website
- Personal commitment to a substantial daily effort on your project (generally 4 hours/day)
Confidentiality is respected
- Ask about a group discount if 2 people sign up for a boot camp together
I generally wait for a critical mass of interest before scheduling a new boot camp. Email me to express interest. Currently I am collecting names for Fall, 2011.
